While its no secret that DC knows how to make villains, it’s still a surprise when one that takes the mantle of the villain and skyrockets up the ranks of popularity like never before. The Batman Who Laughs might not be as mainstream as old villains, but he’s gained notoriety quickly that sees him rise to become the fastest growing villain in the DC universe.
One of his main traits is that he mirrors the characteristics of Batman and so often beats him at his game, but instead of being just another smart villain, equal to the dark knight, he also speeds up the process by always being one step ahead of everyone else. This can be found in the prime example from the latest issue of Year of the Villain: Hell Arisen. He promised not only to disrupt everything in the entire DC, but show DC ‘what a crisis really looks like.’
He’s gathered what appears to be a plan that could go further than what Crisis on Infinite Earth was, which was engineered by the AntiMonitor. As he follows this heinous plan, he probably looks forward to introduce players who might be familiar with heroes in the present, those corrupted in a previous time and banished from that time. He’s already caused a stir infecting other heroes in the DC Universe and it appears soon he will have an elaborate plan that no one had ever thought could work.
In the same fashion, earth’s mightiest heroes and gods will have to find a way to beat the mastermind, but this is not without consequence.
As we mentioned before, the character is always one step ahead.
